Where to begin with diagnosis ??

Starting Your Neurodiversity Journey

Beginning your journey with neurodiversity—whether it’s your own diagnosis or that of someone close to you—can feel like stepping into an unfamiliar world. It’s often overwhelming, emotionally exhausting, and at times, incredibly isolating. You may find yourself asking, “Where do I even begin?”

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, and that in itself can feel daunting. Support groups on Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms can be incredibly helpful, offering shared experiences and advice. But let’s be honest—they can also feel intimidating at first, especially when you’re already carrying the weight of uncertainty and emotion.

Beyond social media, there are trusted websites, local organisations, and online communities that offer clarity and direction. These spaces can help you better understand what’s happening and what your next steps might be. But it’s important to remember: this journey doesn’t just affect the individual with the diagnosis—it touches everyone in their world.

As someone who deeply believes in the idea that “it takes a village to raise a child”, I also believe it takes a village to support each other through neurodiversity. Open dialogue, shared learning, and mutual compassion are key.

A good starting point? Begin by journaling. Write down names, dates, feelings, questions—whatever comes to mind. This isn’t about being organised or perfect. It’s about making sense of the chaos, getting it out of your head and onto a page where you can start to see patterns, questions, and possibilities.

Learning something new is hard enough—but when it’s deeply personal, when it involves your child, your partner, or even yourself, it becomes heavier. Be kind to yourself. Exhaustion doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you care. And caring is the foundation we build everything else upon.

You don’t have to know everything today. You just have to start. And I’m here to walk that road with you.
